Before recording
Check the transcription engine and language in Settings. Wait until its required models are ready. Use a microphone with clear sound and reduce overlapping speech. Recording permission and model readiness are independent conditions.
Microphone recording
- Choose New Recording in the toolbar.
- Speak while the transcript appears in the live workspace.
- Use Pause, Resume and Mute when needed. Muting stops the app from using microphone input; the visible state tells you whether it is muted.
- Choose Stop and wait for the meeting to finish saving before reviewing it.
Capture a meeting on your Mac
Choose New Capture to capture system audio and microphone audio. If access is denied, enable Notera in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then retry. This permission does not mean Notera saves screen video.
Import audio or video
Choose Transcribe File, select the supported media file and wait for processing. A video contributes its audio for transcription. Keep the original accessible while import copies and prepares it. If a file fails, check that it contains a readable audio track and try a shorter, standard audio file.
After the transcript is saved
Review transcription mistakes before analysis or export. Speaker separation runs as a separate local processing step; it is not guaranteed to supply final speaker labels while people are speaking.

Record on iPhone, finish on Mac
- On iPhone, choose New Recording for a conversation, lecture or interview. Stop recording to save the meeting.
- Keep Notera open with a suitable connection. In iCloud & Storage, check sync status and recordings waiting to upload; use Sync Now to request another round.
- On Mac, wait for the meeting and required content to arrive. Correct the transcript and speakers, add comments and references, and generate or refine an AI report using a configured service.
- Open PDF Export Preview, select the report and its source transcript, arrange chapters and export. Citation links require the corresponding transcript and available source bindings in the combined PDF.
